Frequently Asked Questions
What is Spiritual Direction?
What is a Spiritual Director?
A spiritual director is a companion for your spiritual journey. We do not push or proselytize any specific belief or faith. We are there to support deep inner work in whatever path calls to you.
How did you become a Spiritual Director?
In addition to my education, I am certified through a 2 year Spiritual Direction program with the Center for Non-Religious Spirituality under Jim Palmer
What do you do in a session?
In a 50-minute spiritual direction session we explore your larger journey up to this point, and what's been weighing on your lately. It's helpful to have another set of eyes to see old thought patterns, barriers, or fears that are limiting you from your best self and most fulfilling life. After the session you will receive an email with resources, questions, meditations, or challenges to work on in between sessions. I do not require scheduling a second session, or getting on a schedule, I am simply here when for you need another conversation.
What are your Qualifications?
What are your education qualifications?
My undergraduate focus was Medieval Exegesis, which was really working with scriptures in all its complexity, layers, and nuance. My Master's Degree was under theologian Thomas Oord at Northwind Theological Seminary in Applied Theology: Gen Z Spirituality and the Future of American Religion. I have an almost Doctorate (ABD) in Open and Relational Theology from the same program. In addition to theology school, I am a certified meditation teacher, certified secondary education History teacher, ordained Sufi, and explorer of many different religious texts.
What spiritual paths have you studied?
I was raised Mormon and am a published author in Mormon Philosophy. I have studied Christianity extensively, Buddhism in Thailand, Sufism and Mysticism under a Sufi guide, cults with a cult interventionist, Secular Spirituality with the Center for Nonreligious Spirituality, as well as Interfaith studies. My current focus is in Secular spirituality, specifically for those with religious trauma.
Who are your Spiritual Directors?
I currently have 3 spiritual mentors that I see for my own spiritual journey. A Sufi mystic in the Murshid Sam Lewis Order, Jim Palmer an exvangelical preacher turned Humanist Chaplain, and Thomas Oord a leading voice in Open and Relational Theology. I am still continuing my own journey, and I love walking with others on their journeys.
